Breaking with the traditional shape of Exakta, this model was manufactured by Pentacon on the basis of the Praktica L. It preserves from its predecessors the shutter release in front accessible to left hand, the bayonet and the possibility of changing the viewfinder. However, this one is not compatible with other Exa or Exakta.
It was declined under various presentations:
- plate of front marked “EXAKTA RTL 1000” (like this one)
- plate of front marked “EXAKTA and engraving RTL 1000 with the top of the second release,
- plate of front marked “RTL 1000” and even mention engraved above the second shutter release.
It is possible to use the slow speeds, up to 8 seconds, by combining the functions of the self timer and the selector speeds. It should be noticed that the second shutter release can be locked by an integrated button and that an indicator in the viewfinder disappears when the shutter is cocked.
